Traditional braces utilize a matrix of brackets, wires, spacers, bands and other hardware components to create a system capable of realigning your teeth. This requires our orthodontist to perform a series of regularly scheduled adjustments.

Each one will apply mild force to the components and brackets cemented to your teeth. Over time the tension will gradually stretch and alter the periodontal ligaments that help to anchor your teeth into your gums.

While your traditional braces are very durable it is possible for sticky and hard foods to damage one or more of the components. A similar threat is also posed by bad habits like using your teeth to open a package or nibbling on pens and pencils.

Any problem with your braces can potentially alter the tension on your periodontal ligaments which could also potentially complicate the realignment process and possibly harm soft oral tissues.

If you have a loose bracket, bent wire or some other problem with your braces it’s best to have Dr. Chris Trockel or Dr. Martin Trockel address it as soon as possible. In many of these cases they might be able to simply uninstall the damaged component and replace it.

If necessary, they might also perform an early adjustment to ensure that the tension on your braces remains consistent.

If you are in the Tulsa or Bixby, Oklahoma, area and have a loose or damaged braces component, we invite you to call 918-364-2222 to have it examined and addressed at True Smile Orthodontics.
