Our team at True Smile Orthodontics is pleased to provide braces for patients whose teeth are not straight or well aligned, or who need bite adjustments. Some patients receive braces to address cosmetic imperfections, while others need the medical benefits. Here are five reasons why your smile may need to undergo orthodontic treatment:

#1 If you lost your baby teeth prematurely and your adult teeth didn’t erupt for a while, you could have some crooked or sideways permanent teeth.

#2 Your teeth may be too crowded or crooked and can overlap or sit sideways, making it a challenge to clean and floss your smile. Without braces, your teeth can be more susceptible to dental problems such as bad breath, tooth decay, and gum disease.

#3 Teeth that are too small or spaced too far apart can create alignment problems that affect the functions of your jaw and bite.

#4 A shifting or noisy jaw caused by jaw joint disorder or jaw misalignment inhibit your ability to chew, leading to a sore jaw and stomach problems.

#5 Bite issues such as an overbite, underbite, or crossbite can cause you to constantly bite the insides of your cheeks, hit the roof of your mouth, struggle with chewing your food, and cause headache-inducing muscle strain.

While some orthodontic issues are genetic, others develop from tooth decay, thumb sucking, dental trauma, breathing through the mouth, and poor nutrition. Some patients also just don’t have enough room in their jaws for all of their teeth.

At True Smile Orthodontics, Dr. Chris Trockel and our team are pleased to provide high-quality braces in Tulsa and Bixby, Oklahoma, and the surrounding communities.
